Mallory Meyer is an editorial assistant in Medical Student Education. She is attending IUPUI to get her bachelor’s in English, specifically Professional & Public Writing. While this is her first writing job, she hopes to strengthen her skills and ultimately work for a publishing company as a book editor.
“As future physicians, it is important for us to be engaged and truly understand issues that our patients may be facing. The knowledge gained from these service experiences allows us to grow and make a more positive impact on patients and our communities.”
Gena Baumberger, a second-year student at Indiana University School of Medicine–Bloomington, works as the campus representative to the schoolwide Service-Learning Coalition executive board, cultivating opportunities to serve the Bloomington community year-round.
From regularly working with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana to assisting the Sojourner Truth House, Indiana University School of Medicine–Northwest-Gary serves their whole community. Michelle La-Turner is the Northwest representative to the service-learning board. She works with the class representatives and coordinates with administrations so there are activities year-round.

As part of this year’s Gold Humanism Honor Society, the induction ceremony was held at the Indiana Landmarks Center on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. The IU School of Medicine chapter inducted 36 students, six residents, and four faculty.
