    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
I chose Internal Medicine because I liked the idea of treating patients with a holistic approach where you address every issue they have going on. The idea of managing medically complex patients and formulating plans that take into account the interplay between their different disease processes fascinates me.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
I have lived in Indiana for eight years and I consider it home for me now. I would like to contribute to the overall welfare of the community I live in, and I felt that the IU Evansville program and I aligned in those interests.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
In my free time, I like to play/watch basketball (particularly the NBA) and tennis. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and visiting new places.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
Being able to solve the mystery of a clinical presentation by looking at how an illness has manifested itself in terms of signs, symptoms, laboratory changes, and radiological findings is highly congruent with my investigative persona. Additionally, seeing patients improve once a correct diagnosis has been reached and the right treatment has been administered is highly rewarding. I also like the diversity in career options that this field offers whether to be a PCP to choosing a certain sub specialty. For these reasons, I found that specializing in internal medicine was the best fit for me.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
I chose this program because it combines best of both worlds  of training in an Academic (Indiana University based) and community settings. Program's faculty and their commitment and focus on teaching residents was a major factor as well. On a spiritual level I also liked the idea of being a part of answering the call of need of primary care physicians in Vinccence due to their shortage which is really very rewarding especially after knowing how this program impacted patients in this special community.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I really enjoy talking to people and getting to know them and their cultural backgrounds. In my free time I like reading, free writing, playing video games, analyzing poems and song lyrics. I'm also interested in technology, religions, linguistics, and trying different dishes from around the world.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
In internal medicine you get to spend more time with your patients than with other specialties. Formation of these trusting, valued, and unique relationships with our patients make up the beauty and strength of internal medicine. Taking care of people with complex medical problems requires a holistic approach to patient care with an emphasis on critical thinking and reasoning skills to provide my patients with the optimal care that they deserve.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
IUSM Internal Medicine Southwest program is a program that opened up to help address the physician shortage in the southwest Indiana region. Not only do I get to fulfill my dream of becoming a physician, but I'm also honored to offer my services in this community to help close the health disparities in this area. The program also runs across two hospitals that serve a tristate area which exposes you to a rural and urban setting, so you get to see a wide range of pathologies from a diverse patient pool, both as a primary care physician in an ambulatory continuity clinic and as a hospitalist.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
Karate, traveling, swimming, enjoy spending time with family and friends

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
Coming from a prior background in Human Physiology, I have always enjoyed learning and teaching concepts of multi-organ systems. Internal medicine offers a broad range of knowledge and pathologies. I appreciate this aspect of internal medicine as I believe that having comprehensive knowledge provides the tools to troubleshoot complex disease processes that may involve multiple organ systems. As an internal medicine physician, I must know the complete story of my patient. This field allows me to connect with my patients on a deeper level and build amazing doctor-patient relationships. To hear the complete story of every patient I see is a lucrative gift offered by internal medicine that motivates me to pursue this field.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
IU southwest internal medicine residency program is innovative, resourceful, supportive, constantly improving, and open to change. I wanted to become a part of a program where the voice of residents is heard. Program leadership takes residents feedback into consideration to support the need for further improvements in GME.  Faculty and leadership are very well experienced, dedicated, and accomplished in the field of GME. I knew I would get world-class medical training with this residency. The program location is very ideal, neighboring five or six major cities within a few hours distance, so there are a lot of opportunities in the future to live and continue to work in southwest Indiana and next-door cities/states. Having the opportunity to rotate through rural and urban settings in one single program was one of the main reasons I chose this program.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
Whenever I have some free time during my routine, I enjoy long-distance running and prefer hiking if there is natural terrain nearby. There is nothing I find more refreshing or exciting than traveling and discovering something new! I love meeting people from various backgrounds, hearing their stories, and sharing their unique experiences and culture. My recent interest also includes aerial photo-videography. I enjoy capturing scenic routes and nature. Apart from these, I am passionate about personal fitness and bodybuilding.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
Internal medicine is a uniquely comprehensive field. We have the privilege of caring for patients in many healthcare settings, including the ED, the floors, the ICU, and the clinic. Our training lends itself to a deeper knowledge of the complexity and breadth of medical issues that our communities face. Ultimately, I seek to apply my medical training to advocate for patients on a large-scale, population level.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
This program is a hidden gem. When I was choosing a residency program, I looked for two things: a supportive, friendly culture and a well-balanced curriculum that encompasses a broad base of medical knowledge. The IUSM Southwest Indiana Internal Medicine Program hit the mark on both points! Our faculty and leadership have decades of experience and are achieving things that have never been done before in the world of medical education - it’s an honor to be a part of that journey while caring for the communities of Indiana and our neighboring states.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I enjoy the piano and flute, running and hiking, attempting 80s-style workouts, reading senseless romance novels, & learning languages.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
I like the intellectual challenges involved in internal medicine, especially differential diagnosis. The possibility of continuing a relationship with the patients is another good aspect.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
I choose the IU School of Medicine IM southwest program because is a unique possibility combining all resources of a high-level academic program with the learning opportunities of training in a smaller city/underserved population can provide. I think it is an excellent choice for those who want a solid general internal medicine training.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I am interested in reflexive thinking, philosophy and learning about different point of views. I like singing, Chinese food and spending time with my family.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
To begin with, I love the intellectual challenge and satisfaction that come with thinking broadly about the complex interaction of systems in the whole patient as opposed to just thinking about one organ system. Furthermore, as a people person, I love how taking care of patients as a primary care doctor in outpatient setting enables me to form ongoing relationships with them.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
I chose this program for three reasons. Firstly, as an Indiana University expansion program, it provides the academic culture that reinforces the lifelong commitment to learning involved in medicine. Secondly, the program runs across two hospitals that serve a tristate area (IN, IL, KY) thus exposing one to a wide range of pathologies from a diverse patient pool both as a primary care physician in ambulatory continuity clinic and as a hospitalist with hospitalized patients. Thirdly, I loved the spirit of collegiality that I could sense from the residents and faculty during the interview process.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I love soccer – watching, playing and coaching. I also love science fiction books, and music as well as traveling and discovering new places/cultures.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
love internal medicine and the large scope of practice it offers. I wanted a specialty that would allow me to maintain an exposure to a wide-array of practice while I decide what I’d like to sub-specialize in or whether I’d like to pursue the hospitalist route. I’m really happy I chose internal medicine. Seeing patients both in the hospital and in the clinic is a fantastic learning experience.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
I chose SWINRES because of the full sponsorship by Indiana University, which means that I am a resident in an academic program.  The fact that it was based in a rural setting was even more appealing: it exposes me to a population in need for primary care physicians as well as quality inpatient care. Furthermore, the program’s core faculty is world class: Drs Beliveau, Ficalora, Singson, Sash, and McKinley are fantastic educators with decades of experience: they know what it takes to run a top-notch program and get their residents where they need to be.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I have a decent amount of hobbies and thankfully live in an area that allows me to partake in most of them: I love to cook, I tend to cook and grill a whole lot for my friends and colleagues. I enjoy the outdoors, be it hikes in nearby forests or walks alongside the Evansville waterfront. I workout and game, and finally enjoy going out to bars/parties/concerts.

    Why I chose Internal Medicine:
I desired my emphasis of practice to be preventing, diagnosing and treating adults with a variety of diseases requiring complex medical management. I also loved the variety of pathology in general internal medicine that I was exposed to as a medical student, requiring constant in-depth problem-solving. Lastly, I had several mentors in internal medicine that were excellent diagnosticians who inspired me in their practices.

Why I chose the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Southwest program:
The program leadership, the collaborative and supportive work environment, the enjoyment of the interview process and feeling that I would fit in well, the repute of the program, and the location.

    Personal interests and hobbies:
I enjoy outdoor activities such as running, hiking, golfing, swimming, camping, snorkeling and scuba diving. I also enjoy reading, going to church, and spending time with my wife and traveling.
