Gastroenterology Fellowship

The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine trains outstanding gastroenterologists in a three-year ACGME-accredited program that combines excellent clinical and academic training. The program curriculum is tailored to each individual fellow’s career goals. Core program values include diversity, equity and inclusion. Education and mentoring are critical to the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, which hosts one of the most robust general gastrointestinal and advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowships in the United States. Former trainees of this program are now leaders at academic medical centers throughout the United States and successful practicing gastroenterologists in Indiana and beyond.

Program Director's Message

Thank you for your interest in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship program at Indiana University School of Medicine! IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the nation, and our division is one of the largest and most comprehensive GI divisions in the country and the only tertiary care center for gastroenterology and hepatology for the state of Indiana. Our program supports, guides and prepares fellows to reach the maximum of their potential, to realize their personal goals and to succeed in their future careers whether at academic institutions or community practices. With the prominence and commitment of our large group of faculty, with diverse strengths and interests, we offer our fellows a broad spectrum of GI training in a tailored three-year program. With multiple training sites on the downtown Indianapolis campus, our fellows experience the unique and different strengths of each site, and a comprehensive educational experience in clinical training and research.

In alignment with the IU School of Medicine core values, our program offers a positive and inclusive experience, in an environment that embodies excellence, respect, collegiality, integrity, diversity and cooperation. Fellowship Coordinator's Message

I am so excited for your interest in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Fellowship program at IU School of Medicine. My role as the education program administrator and fellowship coordinator is to support you throughout your training. I will support you starting from your interviews, throughout your onboarding, three years of training and culminating with your graduation. One of my favorite moments is sending out interview invitations and hearing the excitement from candidates. As you consider Indianapolis and IU School of Medicine for your gastroenterology training, please do not hesitate to reach out to learn more about what this great city has to offer. Hello prospective fellows! My role as associate program director fits with my career mission of helping colleagues at all levels develop the most fulfilling careers possible. In this role, I work on curriculum and professional development. While all our fellows are well-trained in general gastroenterology, I hope you leave here with special skills needed to advance academic medicine and the health of our Hoosier community in the coming decades. I will work to help you build the career that is the best fit for you. One of our biggest strengths is our faculty — we have excellent mentors for a huge range of clinical topics. I am an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and have the privilege of holding the associate program director position for the fellowship program.

I am also a graduate of the fellowship program and chose to stay as faculty in the thriving research environment of the division. My role as an associate program director encompasses research guidance, oversight and advocacy for fellows. Feedback from the fellows' about "feeling heard" and being "able to make changes to the established systems" to positively impact their clinical learning environment, makes my role very rewarding.

We wish you an enriching, invigorating and meaningful time here. We are sure you will find the extraordinary training you came to seek with us. We are pleased and humbled that you chose to spend your precious years of training with us. Associate Program Director's Message

I am honored to be your associate program director for simulation and fundamentals of endoscopy. This role aims to formalize our early training pathways in endoscopy, especially in the first year of training as it is a critical period in the endoscopy journey. Throughout your fellowship, you will participate hands-on in a high volume of various endoscopy procedures and indications while being supervised by nationally renowned experts in each sub-field of gastroenterology. We strive to help you build solid roots to master the basics of endoscopy techniques, ergonomics and equipment and tools from day one. We also have opportunities to participate in simulation modules, aiming to have all the tools that would shape you in to a well-rounded and independent endoscopist.

Here at IU School of Medicine, I lead a team that is committed to promote the use of social media primarily for information sharing with friends of the division. We post links to articles and videos that showcase the clinical and research accomplishments of the faculty and fellows. Our content on ongoing events within the division is reflective of our culture and values. We believe that social media offers a platform for collaborative learning of gastroenterology and hepatology related interests.
