Neuromuscular Disorders

Faculty physicians specializing in pediatric neuromuscular disorders in the Department of Neurology at Indiana University School of Medicine offer comprehensive care for patients with nerve, muscle and neuromuscular junction disorders such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease at the pediatric neuromuscular clinic at Riley Hospital for Children.MDA Care Center Logo

The comprehensive clinic offers multi-disciplinary care, with experts in cardiology, pulmonology, physiatry, endocrinology, physical therapy, nutrition, social work and neurology collaborating together for each patient during the same visit. This allows many patients to consolidate their medical care into one to two visits a year.

In this era of exciting new treatments for neuromuscular diseases, faculty physicians are proud to be able to offer the newest therapies, such as exon-skipping therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The clinic is the only pediatric Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Care Center as well as the only Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) Certified Care Center. Physicians provide care and support for patients with more than 60 disorders, including muscular dystrophies, myopathies, peripheral nerve disorders, neuromuscular junction disorders, motor neuron and mitochondrial diseases.
